Unobstructed view from the underpass: a new access building to the main station with a bicycle parking garage is being built at Lindenhofplatz. The temporary protective tunnel erected during the construction phase was demolished on schedule, so that passers-by can now see what the future light-flooded and barrier-free access to the tracks on the south side of the main station will look like.
Construction Mayor Ralf Eisenhauer says: "The construction process during ongoing rail operations is challenging and we are delighted to have reached this final stage. I am sure that the frequency of this second equal access on the south side of the main station will increase after completion."
Things are also happening above ground: a large part of the roof has already been installed. A photovoltaic system and extensive green roof will ensure a CO2-reduced energy supply and positive effects on the local microclimate.
The access building is being realized by Mannheimer Parkhausbetriebe GmbH under the project management of the Mannheim-based architecture firm ADS Architekten Fritz Morsey Partner GmbH according to the winning design by Dietz Joppien from Frankfurt. The open and light-flooded building in the shape of a parallelogram with an edge length of around 84 meters, a width of just under 13 meters and a maximum clear height of 7.50 meters will have two commercial units, a catering area, a ramp and an elevator as well as around 600 bicycle parking spaces.
Completion is scheduled for this year.
